Blurbing Your Way to Success

What a stupid title. I don't really care. If you like it or don't it makes no difference unless it steers you away from reading this. If it made you read this then awesome. I'm probably sipping a Mai Tai on a beach raking in page views counting my welfare checks.

I'm just kidding. I'll be using food stamps for the liquor and handling the liver issues with my medicare. But anyway, I'm up to 91 page views and I haven't done a damn thing. Seriously not promoting this blog at all and someone (probably close family and friends) have been stalking me. Just wait until the checks start rolling in. Tax free money!!!

Ahh the American dream... one day!
Did you know Michael Dell (Dell computers) and Steve Forbes (Forbes Magazine) [do i even need to put those?] own huge homes on vast plots of land and get a ridiculously lower tax rate than most normal people because of an agricultural loophole? It's fucking crazy.
Look it up:

http://www.thenation.com/article/tax-day-farms-owned-rich-provide-massive-tax-shelter/

how insane is this place.
Valued at $329K for taxes

My home is a 1950s split level
and I pay $1000 a month in taxes to live behind a carvel and auto shop an hour from the city.

Anyway, what the hell was I talking about?
Blurbs!

That's what you want and by someone who matters. I am currently shopping my manuscript to agents and in searching for a few getting rejected a handful of times over the past year, editing it and re editing it, changing the demographic, I am now re-shopping the same book. I decided to find out if getting a blurb would help with that actual process so I asked an author who I know and whose books closely fit the same market if they would consider it and we shall see what happens.

First if I get a positive blurb at all- awesome.
Second if it makes a difference to the agent- awesomer.
Third I have one blurb already to go on the front of my book- awesomest!

Let's see how it goes.

1 Line Wednesday

Every Wednesday I try to participate in a twitter event called 1 line Wednesday. I don't know if it's an event or just a topic. I don't really care either. Just go do it, take part in it and let your creativity shine.

#1linewed was started by the Romance Writers of USA Kiss of Death division. (I'm assuming)

If you want to get involved go to their twitter or home page:
https://twitter.com/RWAKissofDeath
rwamysterysuspense.org/index.php

Once a week they post the content of the one line Wednesday post and if you stay within those guidelines and write something interesting you should access a few more followers each time. So far I have been successful in doing that. Most of my twitter activity takes place on Wednesday because of this and also my laziness with social media the rest of the week.

Writing is hard

Becoming a writer is hard. Quitting crappy jobs is easy. Getting rid of sources of income to pursue your dream is extremely hard but that's what welfare is for. Thanks government.

Now before you start complaining (if there is anyone actually reading this) about that let me make it clear I am not on welfare because I don't have children. At some point in time we might take one on for the monthly payment if things don't go well. But that's for another blog. BabiesThatPayMe.com

Instead I embark on my journey to become the best writer ever (living in my house) creating fantasy adventure and sci-fi content because I'm too lazy to do research on real subjects and no one can tell me what this make believe world I've created is supposed to look like. Either way I don't care what people think. *this is a total lie. I care, I care a lot. Please buy my book if it gets published.

My wife is an actress and I offer little to no competition in that department plus my dog is very active on social media and has probably twice as many followers and I do all of the work anyway so I will take up the role as being great in my own thing.

Look ^ seriously useless. Does this all day and just rolls in the likes, retweets, whatever the instagram version of stuff is. It's insane. I have to actively work to make people not hate me on a daily basis.

I am also going to take on social media to see if any of these self help programs work. That way anyone can see real results or not. So I'm starting from the bottom.
Well not the very bottom but close i guess:

Facebook 900 friends
Twitter 400 followers @TomOBrienAuthor
Instagram 200 followers

Pretty weak right?
(also follow me on that shit if you are on this page)

It's doubtful I will ever be a trending topic or as popular as Miley, Kanye or Kardashians. But I consider myself a better human being than all of them.
That counts for something right?

Either way I am not a big fan of social media. I like interacting with people but prefer it in real life. Plus I barely have the time to learn how to not suck at writing enough to also take up not sucking at social media.

Until then I will pound the keys and make things happen.
